Art in Situ
Dear Readers,

Another wonderful week at the gallery, meeting so many fabulous art and craft lovers. It is so encouraging to learn about what people think and feel about what they are seeing. Your feedback is very important to us and we appreciate every visit you make.

The gallery is situated in the corner of a beautifully landscaped oasis of young soft green grasses and natural tones and our current courtyard sculpture by Anne Curry, Jacaranda fits in beautifully. A bit about the Jacaranda mimosifolia, it is a sub-tropical tree native to south-central South America, widely planted because of its long lasting violet-coloured flowers. The sculptor gives us a glimpse of its leaf structure in her poetic impression of this plant. The work itself can be cast in bronze or resin and would work in any natural garden environment such as this.

Our favourite café at Wightman Gallery is called The Mixing Shed, not just because of the great food, staff, views and furniture, it also hosts artworks from our curated exhibition Lines, finishing on the 30th April. The images below demonstrate everyday scenes from The Mixing Shed Café in day light. How wonderful to enjoy the best coffee in town by Ninth Roasters, and a menu using freshly baked loaves from micro Loaf Tin Bakery next door along with artworks you can enjoy and also purchase. On that note, we wanted to explore why art is important to have within our home/outdoor environment.

What does Art in Situ actually mean? " its Café Art" some would say, at Wightman Gallery we like to say there is Art in a Café. Art is Art, it is not different just because it may be seen in a café. Art is not separate from us, it is part of us, it is what we see, feel, hear, we are in fact art itself. Art marks the beginning of a story, a conversation, a poem. We want encourage you to bring it into your home and start collecting because environment and our relationship with the outside world is what awakens connection. A home tells a thousand stories and here at Compass we hope to set you on your own art journey.

Feel free to ask us any questions about the artists and their creations by emailing me
Annabel at wightmangallery@gmail.com. Until next time.
